DBIT AICTE IDEA Lab
AICTE has established a AICTE-IDEA (Idea Development, Evaluation & Application) Lab Scheme in its approved institutions to encourage students to apply STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fundamentals through hands-on learning and practical experience. Serving as a shared institutional facility, the IDEA Lab enables students to “engage, explore, experience, express, and excel,” aligning with the vision outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. These labs are required to operate 24/7 in selected institutions and be accessible to colleges, schools, and industries in the vicinity.
It is of great significance that our institution, Don Bosco Institute of Technology, Bengaluru has received approval from the AICTE to establish the IDEA Lab. This development will provide substantial benefits to our students, faculty members, and researchers by fostering innovation, enhancing learning opportunities, and promoting cutting-edge technologies.
Vision for IDEA Lab
- To provide a self-sustainable platform and train next generation of young minds, to execute their innovative ideas, complimented with holistic knowledge across disciplines. Upgrade the lab to a firm, in next decades.
- Build commercially viable products, after patenting, catering socio economic needs thus nurturing innovativeness and encouraging entrepreneurship in our institute and as well as neighboring colleges.
- Host Ideation workshops and encourage students and faculty to learn new technologies, through Industry Collaboration.

Integration of IDEA Lab with existing facilities
- The IDEA Lab is a unique facility designed to provide extensive exposure to young talents within and around the Institute, enabling them to experiment with their innovative ideas.
- The Institute has already established a Technology Business Incubation (TBI) center under KCTU, Government of Karnataka. It boasts 10 research laboratories and 64 academic laboratories, where thousands of projects, ranging from minor to major, have been executed.
- The expertise and experience gained from these existing facilities will be leveraged to support the IDEA Lab in various stages, including ideation, planning, designing, programming, prototyping, implementation, and promotion.
- Furthermore, the products developed in the IDEA Lab will serve as primary or feeder units for our existing facilities, such as Samsung Innovation Lab, Abstream Technologies and the Machine Learning Labs, among others.
