The Department of Management Studies at Don Bosco Institute of Technology was established in 2004 with an initial intake of 60 students. Recognized as a research center in 2012, the department has grown significantly since then. From 2016, we have been offering MBA programs with core and dual specializations aligned with the VTU curriculum. Our growth is supported by a team of highly accomplished faculty and motivated students, positioning us as a premier institute for management education and research.

A distinguishing feature of our department is the diverse mix of students we carefully select, aiming to enhance the learning experience through varied perspectives and backgrounds. MIS LAB

MBA department is well equipped with a full-fledged MIS Lab with 30 systems with 24hrs internet connection. MIS is also known as Preferred Information Processing System, Information and Decision System, Organizational Information System, or simply Information System which is an integrated, user-machine system for providing information to operations, management, and decision-making functions in an organization. For example, the Lab enables users to find information related to the usage of Excel in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, International Business, Marketing, and Supply Chain Management. MIS Lab also offers helps to train students on Microsoft Excel and Expert Certification by providing tutorials and sample problems aimed to assist in their analyzing tasks.

Research Areas

The Department of Management Studies and Research promotes the active involvement of faculty and students in Managerial Collaborative Programmes at national and international levels in various Forums, Conferences, and Summits. These Programmes aim at the exchange of knowledge among students and faculty in terms of research or project works. The department also offers short/ long term training to students on the latest Management Policies and Practices and encourages publication of research articles and provides teaching materials for E-Learning. The centre works to provide solutions for various problems in the field of Entrepreneurship, Marketing Strategies, HR Practices, and Financial Management, etc. The department is actively engaged in research in the following areas.

Marketing

Marketing research is required continuously for any business. Market research plays a vital role in securing the information about the latest trend and gain a competitive advantage, to reach the target audience and achieve the sales goals. Market research can provide prospective solutions to many challenges that arise in a Business organization. Market research has huge potential to understand the present market share, needs of existing customers and, identify new areas for expansion/potential customers.

Finance

Financial research is necessary for any business organization to be aware of its financial worth by investigating its financial statement and other public documents. It enables the Organisation to manage portfolios and funds and estimate the risk of investment. All companies need to be financially stable and have financial resources to expand the business. Research in this area is of prime importance.

Human Resource

The employees are the most important asset of any organization. Suitable measures should be taken to reduce attrition and increase retention. HR research is, “the task of searching for, and analyzing of facts to the end that personnel resentment can be resolved or principles and laws governing their solutions derived.” The research in HR provides an understanding of what does work, what does not work, what needs change, nature, and extent of changes.

Economics

The economy of a country is dependent on various unpredictable factors that were predominantly restricted to its populations, climate, demography, education, infrastructure, policies, and many other factors. However, in the present context, it is very extremely vulnerable to global events. Economics deals with the optimal distribution of resources in a society or an organization. Due to the numerous areas that affect the economy, and research in this field would be the most challenging. It can provide probable answers to address many issues such as market fluctuations, macro-economy, risk of recession, etc.

Two Staff Members, namely Dr. Meera Uday – Professor and HOD and Ms. Anitha G. H. – Assistant Professor accompanied the students. Mr. Srinidhi S.N, Senior Officer- HR and Administrations of the host industry presented an overview about the plant and took the students and staff members on a conducted tour.
2 28th March, 2018 Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI), Kochi, India An industrial visit to Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) Kochi, India was undertaken by the students of the Second and Fourth Semester [87 students] MBA, on 28-03-2018. Three Staff Members, namely Mr. Harish R, Assistant Professor, Mr. Shyam Sundar S A, Assistant Professor and Ms. Bhagya Lakshmi K – Assistant Professor accompanied the students. The officials of the host institute explained the different Business Models, Vendor Development Policies, Customer Base Creation Methods, Research and Developmental Activities. The students were also briefed about the Subsidies/Grants from the State/Union Governments, Challenges and Opportunities.
3 27th March, 2018 Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company (P) Ltd., Kerala An industrial visit to Kanan Devan Hills Plantations Company (P) Ltd., Kochi, Kerala was undertaken by the students of the Second and Fourth Semester [87 students] MBA, on 27-03-2018. Three Staff Members, namely Mr. Harish R, Assistant Professor, Mr. Shyam Sundar S A, Assistant Professor and Ms. Bhagya Lakshmi K – Assistant Professor accompanied the students. The students were demonstrated the various Managerial Aspects and production processes at the plant and the Logistics and Supply Chain Management. They were also briefed about Humane Resource Practices and Marketing Policies.
4 25th -27th Oct, 2017 Macurex Sensors Pvt. Ltd., Kumbalagodu, Bengaluru An industrial visit to Macurex Sensors Pvt. Ltd. Kumbalagodu, Bengaluru was undertaken by the students of the First and Third Semester [76 students] MBA, from 25-10-2017 to 27-10-2017. Two Staff Members, namely Dr. Meera Uday – Professor and HOD and Mr. Srihari – Assistant Professor accompanied the students. The students were demonstrated the Production Techniques and applications of sensors in various fields including Indian Railways and Aircrafts. The students were given useful insights into Hiring Practices, Innovative Practices of Marketing, Advertisement Policies, internal and external factors influencing their Business Model.

Internship

Recognizing the need for experiencing the real-world corporate culture during the course work, the Organisation Study has been undertaken by the students of third semester in various reputed organizations. Some of the notable firms are Hachodri Robotics, Zopper, Amazon, J-wings, Wonderla, BSNL, KSDCL, Royal Elegance Technologies, Dynamic Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Intralox, Global Electronics, Vinpack India Pvt. Ltd., AP Fab Technologies, Metal Pac and many more. A total of 43 students have benefited from the study that they have undergone during this academic year.

Similarly, a total of 47 students have benefited from the study during the previous academic year.
