Library and Information Centre
The Library of DBIT is the hub of information resources. We procure the resources in electronic form, in addition to the conventional print form for fulfilling all the information needs of the user community. We offer an enormous wealth of information both on and off-campus by way of subscription to the e-resources of VTU Consortium. The library has more than 70,000+ volumes of books and subscriptions to important printed periodicals, magazines, newspapers, and many e-resources and technology tools facilitate the academic and research activities of all stakeholders. National and International Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, and also Information Literacy Programmes are organized to create awareness among students about competitive examinations in the public and private sectors.

The library is situated on the ground floor of the Main Academic Block, spread over an area of about 1200 square metres. It is well-ventilated with natural light and provides a conducive ambiance for about 250 persons. The library has well-trained staff to support and serve the user community effectively.

The library was established in the year 2001 and formally inaugurated in the year 2004 by Dr. Raja Ramanna, Former Director, BARC, and veteran nuclear scientist of India. The library was named Dr. Raja Ramanna Center for Knowledge Resources in honour of his contribution to the nation and respectful memory of his visit to DBIT.

We welcome you to the Dr. Raja Ramanna Center for Knowledge Resources, DBIT. Over the last two decades, we have grown our expertise and competence in the core Library and Information Management Curriculum and Research. The library has a large collection of books covering various branches of Engineering & Technology, Management, and Humanities and other allied areas. Campus has one of the best-established libraries as per the standards.
The Library acts as a key Resource and Learning Center of the Institute to meet the Information needs. The Objective is achieved by Libraries, when library professionals are able to mobilize all the resources available to them in an effective and efficient manner. Keeping in view the aims and objectives, The Library has been planned and being developed by a team of Qualified Professional library staff and guided by the Library Development Committee.
The library is extremely rich in resources and has more than 50,000 books, journals, Tech. magazines, computerized online systems, audio-visual material and CD-ROMs. In modern times, the library has extended itself beyond the physical infrastructure by giving online access to the users and by providing the assistance in navigating and analysing tremendous amount of knowledge with a variety of e-journals, e-book, language tool, similarity checking tool and other digital tools. The Library and Information Center at Institute is fully automated with user friendly Library Software KOHA 23.11.00(Cloud based server)

Mission
- The primary mission of the library is to support the students and faculty of the institute by providing physical and intellectual access to information, consistent with the present and anticipated educational and research functions of the institute.
Short Term Goals
- To encourage greater use of library resources through innovative services.
- To increase the availability of material for competitive examinations.
- To provide e-resources for all teaching-learning processes.
- To promote participation in MOOC, SWAYAM, NPTEL courses.
Long Terms Goals
- To offer Round the Clock physical access to the library.
- To enter into MoUs with other libraries and Information Centres.
- To network with other Library Associations, Library Science Academies.
- To expedite Library Automation and the creation of an institutional repository.

“INFONIX” inaugurated on 27 th of September for the academic year 2018-19.

The Department of Information Science & Engineering has got its student association named “INFONIX” which creates various avenues and opportunities for shaping the knowledge, empowering the skills, and building the right attitude. The forum was formally inaugurated on September 24th, 2019 for this year by Dr. Hemadri Naidu T, the Principal, Prof Gowramma G.S, Head of the Department, Information Science & Engineering, and Chief Guest, Mr. Gokul Nagaraj, Marketing specialist, G.E Healthcare.
Rules & Ragulations
General Rules
- All kinds of personal belongings except Notebook are supposed to be kept in the property counter at the entrance.
- Absolute silence is to be maintained inside the library.
- Using a mobile phone inside the library is strictly prohibited.
- Books picked up from the stack should be left on the reading table itself. Users should not replace them in their positions on the stack.
- Underlining, scribbling and tearing of pages or any such act will be viewed seriously.
- Upon any infringement of the library rules, members shall forfeit privileges of admission and membership of the library.
- The librarian reserves the right to suspend or cancel the membership of any member found misbehaving, abusing the library staff or behaving indecently.
Rules for Lending of Books
- Borrowing books from the library is restricted to registered members only.
- All registered members will be issued a Library Identity Card cum Reader's Ticket and it is not transferable.
- Membership is valid as long as she/he remains on the rolls of the college.
- All registered students can borrow 5 books at a time for a maximum period of 15 days.
- A book can be renewed once if there is no reservation for it.
- The Faculty can borrow 7 books and Technical staff can borrow 2 books at a time for a maximum period of one semester.
- A fine of Rs.2/- per day will be levied on each overdue book.
- The loss of Library Identity Card cum Reader’s Ticket should be reported to the Librarian and a duplicate card will be issued on payment of Rs.100/-.
Rules for Loss of Books
- Loss of any book/s borrowed must be reported immediately to the Librarian.
- The lost book/s should be supplanted with the latest edition with overdue charges if any.
Procurement of Books
- Suggestions for the procurement of books are welcome from the Students, Faculty and the Heads of the various Departments.
No Due Certificate
- The Library Identity Card cum Reader's Ticket is required to be surrendered along with any borrowed books for obtaining NO DUE CERTIFICATE from the library.

The library catalogue can be searched by author, title, publisher, keyword and year of publication.

NPTEL and SWAYAM
NPTEL Online Certification: Don Bosco Institute of Technology has an NPTEL Local chapter with the objective of enabling students to obtain NPTEL online course certificates. Such certificates add value to make students employable in the industry or pursue a suitable higher education programme. NPTEL through an online portal conducts 4/8/12 week online courses, typically on topics relevant to students in all years of higher education along with basic core courses in sciences and humanities. Also, exposure to the relevant tools and technologies are offered. The enrolment to and learning from these courses involves no cost. The proctored certification examination for these online courses is to be taken in-person. The successful candidates will be is provided certificates through DBIT.

Currently, VTU e-Learning Centre has migrated from satellite-based EDUSAT programme to web-based e-Shikshana programme. It has an e-content repository of 366 courses of Engineering and Management, 15120 hours of teaching and 857 experts have participated in the preparation of the courses.
